The disk images contain

• a small installation of the Fedora Core 5 Linux system on a 3GB virtual harddisk,
• the source code and the tools needed to compile and use
  • the Programatica Tools, Plover and Alfa,
  • House,
• Isabelle.

More information is displayed when the system boots.

The disk images currently come in two flavors:

• The pfe+fc5-rawhd-*.tar.bz2 contains a raw disk image. This has been found to work in Qemu under Linux, and in Parallels under Linux and Mac OS X.
• The pfe+fc5-vmdk-*.tar.zip contains a VMware virtual disk image. This has been found to work in VMware Player under Linux and Windows XP.

Having two big disk images uses up a large part of my disk quota, so if someone knows how to make a single disk image work with all three emulators, please let me know!

The source code bundle contains

• the source code for the Programatica Tools, including Plover,
• additional tools and libraries needed to compile the Programatica Tools,
• an INSTALL script that automates the whole compilation process.

It has been found to compile with GHC in some Unix-like environments:

• 060821: GHC 6.4.1 under Fedora Core 5, Ubuntu 6.06, RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 and FreeBSD 6.1.
• 070526: GHC 6.6 under Fedora 7 test4 and Fedora Core 6

GHC and a small number of standard development tools & libraries need to be installed. See Requirements for more details.

After downloading the source bundle, compiling it should be as simple as

tar jxf programatica-src-bundle-yymmdd.tar.bz2
cd programatica
./INSTALL

I have not had an opportunity to test this under Mac OS X, so I am be interested in finding out if any changes are needed to make it work in that environment as well.
